Here we are again!
Welcome to “Dry January,” “Top Fitness 2023“, the “Year of Double-Digit Profits.”
You name it. It’s that time of year when everyone around you is gearing up for the most ambitious resolutions.
You know, the kind of endeavors that will miserably fail in their vast majority.
No need to be a rocket scientist to understand why there is such a high failure rate.
You either have set unrealistic or overly ambitious goals for yourself. Or you didn’t have a clear plan or roadmap for achieving these goals.
It also doesn’t take an exceptionally bright mind to fix broken resolutions. You can avoid most pitfalls with a little help from pervasive advice across the coaching and mentoring communities. Just follow these three rules:
#1 It truly helps to deconstruct your ambitious goals.
Turn them into chewable chunks, and build a routine that you can execute without feeling overwhelmed or defeated. Don’t expect to finish your first marathon in a mind-blowing time and injury-free if you’re still in the couch potato phase. Instead, aim to exercise three times a week and gradually increase your frequency as you become more comfortable and confident.
#2 It also matters if you make them all specific and measurable.
You can then track your progress and stay motivated. So, instead of resolving to “eat healthier,” you’ll be better off eating five servings of vegetables daily.
#3 And, yes! You need a plan for your goals to succeed.
Put it down on paper. Find an accountability partner. Look for the resources or tools that will support your progress.
Yet, despite all the help, most of us will fail at our New Year’s resolutions in 2023.
Why?
Because there’s still at least one major hurdle. There must be a deeply personal and unique vision for you, connecting all the dots. Too many of us lack that indispensable umbrella that brings cohesion and purpose. Everything you do should be another step toward that desired destination and what you’re here to accomplish.
Articulating the right vision for you or your business can be daunting, but you can get started with ONE word or phrase that will inspire you. Make it your theme for one year. Keep repeating it, and make sure you often reflect on it.
My “ONE” word for 2023? GAME-CHANGER.
That’s the connective tissue for all my actions and goals. The filter I’m using to decide what to do and how to do it.
Your turn, now! What word or phrase will keep you going throughout the year? What will connect it all and inspire you the most?
Once you’ve found it, write it down and place it somewhere you’ll constantly see it, like your phone wallpaper.
Good luck, and here’s to an amazing 2023!
